1960’s LINE-O-SCRIBE SIGN PRESS
The Lino-O-Scribe Sign Machine manufactured by The Morgan Co. in Chicago, Illinois, is unique from other similar proof presses because of the way it was marketed. While presses of this sort used to “proof” a printers forme , to check for errors and see how your forme prints, are common in print shops the Lino-O-Scribe was marketed, not to printers, but to store owners. Retail signs could be made cheaply, neatly, and in-house with the Line-O-Scribe thus replacing the expense of a professional show card writer. Promotional material for the press advertises that “VISUAL SELLING DEMANDS CLEAR PRINTING” and suggests you use the press to “Announce and show new merchandise quickly”, “Close out slow and dead items at once”, and “Push staple items constantly.”
