Stencil Printing

Class Length: Full-day (7 hrs)
Learn the basics of screen printing on paper, including creating stencils, fundamentals of ink and screen printing. This is a fast-paced introduction to a variety of techniques used that screen printers use to produce items with finishes and textures that can't be replicated by any other method. You’ll get to explore everything from hand-cut stencils using paper or mylar to photographic emulsions that create very fine details. You’ll learn what to buy and where to purchase different kinds of supplies. You can create individual posters using water-based inks, as well as a t-shirt with plastisol inks. Our lab equipment ranges from simple, homemade machines to commercial-quality machines, so you can try different options to see which fits your style. This is a small class to ensure that you will have a fantastic experience with tons of tips and tricks. No experience required; beginners are welcome!
Textile Printing

Learn the basics of screen printing on fabric, including creating stencils, choosing inks, and pulling squeegees. Learn the basics of screen printing on fabric, including creating stencils, choosing inks, and pulling squeegees. This workshop will expose you to the basics of screen printing on textiles! You’ll learn how to choose the appropriate type of ink for your project, as well as which screens, squeegees, and other tools work best. You’ll also learn how photo stencils work, have the opportunity to cut your own stencil & print custom-designed shirts, and try puff, metallic foils, and retro-reflective inks -- which produce effects that can't be duplicated via digital printing methods. Finally, you’ll experience a multi-color printing demo on carosel screen presses. This is a small class to ensure that you will have a fantastic experience with tons of tips and tricks. No experience required and beginners are welcome! Just be sure to bring plenty of cotton shirts to experiment with. Beginners welcome! All printing materials provided, but participants will need to bring t-shirts.
