LINDNER’S GOLD: Treasures of the Printing Museum

The International Printing Museum has one of the largest collections of antique printing equipment in the world, a collection that spans several centuries.

The origins of the collection began with our founder, Ernest A. Lindner, who spent 50 years of his life building a private collection that was housed in his warehouse in downtown Los Angeles at 12th and San Pedro, an area that was once the “Printing District.” As a printing equipment dealer, Ernie knew how to find and secure rare gems of printing’s past from across the country and throughout Europe. Since the Printing Museum’s establishment in 1988, curator Mark Barbour has continued the quest for those rare machines and artifacts, more than doubling the size and scope of the museum’s collection.

Join Mark Barbour Saturday, August 15, at 3 pm as he highlights many rare treasures in the collection. You will enjoy the intriguing stories around the hunt and process of acquisition, as well as what makes them such gems of printing history. From early presses to casting machines, tools and antiquarian books, this will be a peek into printing history that you will not want to miss. And following the talk, guests will have the opportunity to even print on several of these presses, several of which are sole survivors of their type.
